Our Story

We have been kicking it in Bali since 2012, located just off the bustling and famous Seminyak eat street, encapsulating the essence and classic style of the hip Colonia Roma zona of Mexico City.

Established by notoriously wild and eclectic Australian entrepreneur Lord William Lovejoy, who is truly the heart and soul of Lacalaca. A Chef since the ripe age of 16 in both Aus and Europe, Lovejoy found that the fun-loving sun and surf culture of Bali, beautifully overlapped with the same warm and friendly traits of Mexico and its delicious food.

But we are not just about the evolution of delicious food and fresh cocktail creations. We are passionate about creating an experience and making sure everyone who comes and goes are part of the family. From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the infamous-wide smiling-Hello Darling- maître d’ Putu Carlos to leaving full of fresh food, loaded with tequila and a cheeky dance atop the bar. It happens. A lot.

Stemming on from the success of our Seminyak location, we have opened the doors to a cheeky little beach side sister restaurant Lacalita Bar y Cocina in Canggu. Be sure to pop in and say HOLA when adventuring that way.

Traditional Mexican Recipes

In the kitchen we work with traditional Mexican recipes making them our own. We cook fresh, healthy, rustic food in generous portions that seize your senses from old school nostalgic Mexi flavours to zesty garnishes and spicy undertone inspired dishes cooked by our young gun chefs using locally sourced ingredients.

Our salsas are made daily, fish is market fresh and we take our sweet time to braise our select cuts of beef, lamb and pork. We recommend that you share as many dishes as possible to experience the depth and deliciousness of flavors of the Lacalaca menu accompanied by a margarita or ten of course.

Our Chefs pick is the Short Rib burger that is a sophisticated take on the American classic and spiced from the heart of Mexico. We rate it as the best on the island (and our customers tend to agree but of course you can eat for yourself). As part of our varied menu you can’t go past our popular tacos which are a signature dish that combine slow braised meats with fresh island fruits, and salsas that would knock a Mexican revolutionary sideways. For the brave souls, we offer special homemade hot chili sauces that will rival any Mexican made.

Botanas, quesadillas, tosdatidas, tacos, tortas, ensalada… the choice is yours!

Signature Cocktails

Our cocktail menu is a collaboration between Lovejoy and “Dr. Cocktail” – a Bali based mixologist who trains our staff on not only on how to make our signature cocktails but has ensured our bartenders understand the elements in each drink. Which also means they might be able to whip you up something extra special if you ask nicely.

One of our top picks and newest addition to our drinks menu is The Mamacita Margarita. The ingredients; fresh lime, lemongrass, Sumbawa white honey, tequila, triple sec and a hibiscus flower on top. Why? Because we feel there is just something about drinking a cocktail with an enormously beautiful flower in it that makes you feel special and exotic.

If you like a little spice head to the Margarita section and fire up with our extra hot and island renown Lacalaca Margarita. The ingredients; lime, bitters, triple sec, jalapeno-infused tequila and a starfruit on top. You can find this recipe in our blog to make at home when you are feeling the post-holiday-Lacalaca depression set in.

CAUTION: Our margis contain lots of tequila and a special ingredient that has been known to make people get up and dance on our bar.

Beautifully decorated, great crab meat quesadillas, strong Mamacita margaritas and live music. Most days, you can find the Aussie owner and probably talk him into taking shots with you.
